7:05 - 8:15 Program
9:00 Lights out!

Two short talks this month, both from "real-work" page object practitioners, each one using a different testrunner and language!

JAVA ABSTRACT: An example of page object usage in a test scenario using Java, TestNG, and Eclipse taken from an interview coding quiz.

JAVA SPEAKER: David Luu has been in QA for 8 years and worked across the range of QA activities with test automation and tools development being one of his specialties. He's been working with Selenium for the past 3 years, and is also involved in open source projects, namely php-webdriver-bindings and remote server implementations and test libraries for Robot Framework. David also blogs about topics related to Selenium and test automation, you can follow at http://autumnator.wordpress.com

RUBY ABSTRACT: An example of page objects for the Website Builder product using Selenium, Rspec and RubyMine.

RUBY SPEAKER: Manoj Pahuja has been a test engineer/SDET for the last 6.5 years and has worked on testing and writing automation for native (windows or mac), android and web. He has been working with Selenium for Ruby for the last 7 months and enjoys doing that and has contributed to a few gems mainly for reporting and memory usage of the application. Manoj recently started blogging about different testing and automation on his blog here: http://testingblog.manojpahuja.com/

Great job David and Manoj! Enjoyed hearing about your approaches :) any recommendations on how I can convince my manager that we need a dedicated QA function would be greatly appreciated too!

Your workplace has no QA, devs only? You'd want to list out current critical problems that management can relate to with regards to quality and SDLC and then figure out how proposing adding a QA role/group can address those issues, then build a case from there. If the organization is dev-centric, you might want to propose adding a role/group for Software Development Engineers in Test (SDETs) rather than QA - it might get better buy in (devs that focus more on testing & automation). But it's really all QA whether you call it QA or SDET, just a different spin on things, although SDETs do tend to have more technical skillset/role than standard QA.

Thank you for the meetup. It is always good to hear the exchange of ideas, various approaches to solving issues. Go Daddy, a great place for a meeting.

I forgot to mention this during the presentation, but here's a bonus to the audience:

an example of page object for Robot Framework (RF). It's a good but trivial example, rather short for a presentation. I could go over in future if desired. Or better yet, maybe a volunteer will have a more complex RF example by then.

Some follow up info on this meetup & my presentation:

Here is my original idea that helped spawn this meetup, it sure would be nice to get additional volunteers to participate in the future: http://tinyurl.com/n25vwgd. I myself wasn't able to procure access to a better example to present in Java than what I had at hand in terms of code.

Also, there wasn't enough time to slot in additional page object tips or elaborating on them, but I have a few posts on my blog that go over them (although rather lengthy posts). Here's links to specific relevant posts:

    http://tinyurl.com/nbyhwt9

The rest of my blog may be worth browsing through too.

And last, regarding the blog, constructive comments to my posts are always appreciated. I supposedly have some amount of readership, but don't seem to get much comments, so I have no idea what my readers think...

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
