Visit a small farm w/chickens, turkey and solar panels

Hi all,

One of our members has been so kind to offer his place to learn about chickens!   Matt Hanneke has a farm off 141 and 21 and has around 50 chickens, a turkey, an orchard and large garden as well as solar panels.  He is close to being "grid" free!

This should be a fun outing!  Make sure to wear weather appropriate clothing and keep in mind your shoes may get dirty :)

I don't plan on bringing any snacks since we really don't have a place for it.  PLUS, there is no bathroom on the premises so go before you get there :)  There is a gas station close.

Please note the 2:00 start time.  Wanted to go during the warmest part of the day.

Thank you Matt for offering your place!

Hopefull Matt will reschedule! Weathers not that bad, but I can see how dozens of us would tear up the yard for sure.

I'm so disappointed in the weather forecast for tomorrow. I was really looking forward to attending this (even though I already have some chickens) and meeting some of you, but I think I'm going to stay home tomorrow and off the roads in case it's nasty. Have fun everyone!

Hey Matt, I don't want to focus the visit on this or say this is your intent, but will you have any eggs to sell Sunday? If so I would like to buy a couple dozen from you. If you have them available of course?

Hope to be there! My experience with chickens is not good, as I shared on Sat.(think fox-filleted chicken breasts). I am also more squimish about killing them for food than my husband or son! Would like my own eggs though. I really liked the way Ken/Jen had their chicken coop set up. Out where we live, such animals have a very short life span. And not due to humans, either.
