The Emergence of the Semantic Web: New Directions in Search and Information Discovery

While market leaders Google and Bing battle it out, new companies are taking search into uncharted territory. Join us on Wednesday, March 24, as we explore the future of search technologies and information discovery.

Our featured presenting company Evri is a consumer web company that is changing the way users filter, discover, navigate, and engage with content on the Web. Evri’s web platform scours content from more than tens of thousands of sources, such as real-time news, blogs, and Tweets. It then filters it by timeliness, relevance, and source credibility, and delivers that content to consumers in intelligent streams across multiple platforms.

In this stimulating program, Evri's CEO, Will Hunsinger, and a panel of leading experts will cover challenges, issues, and opportunities in the world of search and information discovery, including:

  • How new players are making it easier to find meaning in massive amounts of unstructured data
  • Ways to harness semantic search for enhanced knowledge retrieval
  • New technologies for personalization of search channels using pushed search results
  • Enhanced search through disparate sources, including social media, email contacts, and specific subject domains
  • Implications for mobile applications, scientific research, data mining, and multimedia search
  • Opportunities for entrepreneurs and partners to thrive in this exciting arena

Our panelists include:
· Enrique Godreau III, Managing Director, Voyager Capital
· Ed Lazowska, Chair, Computer Science and Engineering, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Director, eScience Institute, University of Washington

Mark your calendars for March 24, and join us for an extended period of informal networking starting at 5:00 pm, a variety of hors d'oeuvres, and a lively discussion in this fascinating preview of the exciting future of search! Please check back for updates on additional event participants and additional details.

IMPORTANT NOTES

In response to direct feedback from our Dinner Forum participants, we have made the following changes to our Dinner Forum event moving forward:

Friendlier format
Our new format will provide more networking time, starting at 5:00 pm instead of 5:30 pm.

Friendlier pricing
Hors d’oeuvres will replace our usual sit-down dinner, resulting in a lower price, as follows:
· Early bird / alumni: $40
· Regular: $46
· At the door: $60

Would you like to make this into a Meetup and show it on the calendar?

Yes, because these message boards don't really reflect a date and time.

This will place RSVP and location mechanisms in place - how do you want to handle the fee structure - redirect to the site? I will make you an event organizer to allow you edit rights to this Meetup. will create draft to get started - then you flesh it out. let me see it before it goes live.

Hi - please be aware that the location for this meeting (MIT Enterprise Forum, March 24, on the Emergence of the Semantic Web) has changed. It will *not* be at the Bellevue Hyatt, but instead will happen at the Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI). Networking starts at 5:00 pm. Should be a great panel - I hope everyone shows up at the right place! Thanks...
