The Story of Thornby Park - Lake Monroe's North Shore Wilderness Preserve

Our first program of the season will take us to Enterprise, Florida.  The valuable piece of Greenspace here almost became high-density development but local folks rallied a coalition and put the brakes on it.  Sandy Walters, a "normal person" turned environmental activist, will use a power point presentation to tell us how ordinary people took on government and saved this cultural and environmental jewel from the bull dozer.  Find out more on her web site:

The following week, on September 21st, we will take a walking tour through Thornby, now a moss-covered bird and wildlife sanctuary.

Meetings are free and open to the public. Refreshments and door prize.

Enterprise and Deltona residents were lucky that Sandy and Ron were living nearby during this attempt to convert natural lands to high density development.
Their determination to save the property was invaluable.

It is the summer's great last heat,
It is the fall's first chill: They meet.

I don't know about "first chill" but it is the day before Autumnal Equinox, it surely will be a little cooler. Ha! Ha!
