Paddle to the Sea

At the November 10th program we will hear the story of a kayaking expedition from Lake Monroe all the way to Jacksonville and the Atlantic Ocean.  Our presenters will be Delany Dean, Jane Goddard, and Debbie LaFreniere.  Delany long dreamed of paddling her kayak from her front yard on Lake Monroe downriver on the St. Johns all the way to the ocean. Fortunately, she has two good friends who wanted to turn that idea into an adventure that all three could undertake together. These Central Florida women took 5 months to train together, plan together, and get ready for a challenging two-week trip on the water. They successfully completed the expedition during the last two weeks of May, 2013.

In this presentation they will tell the story of how a dream turned into reality: the training, the planning, the equipment; and all about their day-to-day life on the St. Johns River -- the sights, the people, the wind and the waves, and the birds and other wildlife they encountered.
