Dances of the World: a free 7-week course introducing us to many folk dances

I think this is quite an opportunity, gang. I can't guarantee I will be able to make every one of these, but imagine, where else could you get such instruction for free?

Note: I have been informed by Lissa Bengtson that everyone can register directly with Eventbrite and we do not have to limit attendees because Eventbrite takes care of controlling the maximum attendee at 200.

That in mind, do not register and print your ticket unless you are pretty sure you are going to try to attend as many of these as you possibly can, because it would be unfair to occupy a ticket when someone else could have used the allocation:

Here's their description:

A FREE 7-week course of dances from around the world, leading up to the San Antonio Folk Dance Festival. These beginner-level classes introduce you to traditional dances from many regions of the globe, which will be taught in a relaxed, joy-filled environment. Good, meaningful , low-impact exercise in a lovely ballroom with a sprung wooden floor. Participants who attend all seven classes will...

Now, for the nitty-gritty: You must register with Eventbrite in addition to RSVP-ing here. From there you can print out your tickets and/or download them to your iPhone or Android. If you haven't been to this venue, you have really missed something special: this is a lovely dance hall with sprung wooden floor (2nd Floor) on the OLLU campus. And, there is plenty of secure free parking nearby as well as security on campus. The 7-weeks starts this Friday, January 24th, and goes through Friday, March 7th.

Here's a link to the OLLU Campus Map. The International Folk Culture Center (IFCC) building where the dance lessons will be held is labeled 23 on the map, and you are encouraged to park in Lot B:

There was this fantastic woman that was dancing and prancing and moved around like sun beams - I mean she just glowed. I just wanted to slap her. (Now for those of you who don't know me this is a joke my BFF came up with for those times when we're trying to do something and there is someone who is so awesome it made us feel like toads. And even though we were in total awe of this person, and we felt ridiculous, we were not going to give up.) I'm so glad I didn't give up because I had a blast! There were men & women of ALL ages and the time just flew by. I encourage anyone who is free on Friday night to join us. You don't even have to dance (several people didn't) to have a good time.

I just spoke to Lisa Bengtson, the center director and she said there is no cancellation because the weather should be ok by then. She told me she will follow up with any weather advisory and post any changes by 5pm tomorrow. Wrap yourself goood and let's have fun! ;-0
