Labor Day Weekend-Sat -Khortum Trail

Leaving Rohnert Park at 0900:

• I will not be meeting at the RP Expressway Park and Ride since we changed to destination.  If someone was planning on meeting there, please send me (wendy) a private email - I don't have room in my car, but you can follow me out.

Due to the bridge closures, holiday traffic, and Sausalito Art fesitival, this hike has been changed to walk the Khortum Trail.

Lovely flat walk along the coastline - It can be cold - wear layered clothes - Pack a lunch and we will eat on the bluffs just prior to Goat Rock.

Please update your RSVP's if this change affects your decision to join us.

It was great to see everyone. Weather was perfect. Thanks for suggesting this as an alternative Suzanne.

Weather cleared for us just as we got there and fogged up just as we were leaving.

A really nice walk along the cliffs. The sunny blue sky and crystal water was awesome. Nice group of people.

I will be on the Farmer's Lane side in the Ross parking lot at 9:15. I'm sorry I didn't respond yesterday. It looks like we have at least two drivers, so we should be able to work it out for whoever wants to carpool.

Is anyone interested in carpooling from Montgomery Village? If so, I can take three others in my car. We can meet at 9:15 outside of Ross. I drive a red Ford Focus.

Will be leaving from Petaluma and met you all out there. Remember: free parking is available right by the trailhead.

    Good idea, Suzanne.

We could meet at Wright's Beach and do the Sonoma Coast walk we did once before. No travel to Marin+beach/ocean walk+non- strenuous warm up.

    • wendy

Khortum trail? sounds like a plan

      August 28, 2013

  • Peggy A.

Agree about the amount of travel for a short hike. If we change, my recommendation would be to do something like either Armstrong or Shiloh.

    1 · August 28, 2013

    • wendy

I made this a short hike as a warm up to Sunday and Monday hikes - Armstrong and Shiloh are both kind of tough.

      August 28, 2013

    • Rose

The short hike is what appealed to me, as well as that the ocean was involved.

      August 28, 2013

  • Bill

I tried to get to Tenessee Valley for a hike on the 4th of July weekend with another group, and the traffic was horrible, ended up late for the hike. Might be worse this weekend because of the bridge closure and the Sausalito festival which is very popular.

    1 · August 28, 2013

    • wendy

Well, that's good to know - that means this weekend with the bridge closure and the Sausalito Art Festival - this will probably be a horrible weekend.

      August 28, 2013

    • wendy

That's good information - if it was bad on the 4th, I suppose it will be awful for this weekend between the festival and the bridge closure -

      August 28, 2013

  • John

How about Bear Valley Trail at Pt. Reyes? Flat, straight, easy, to the ocean. Start at Park Hq with plenty of parking. Also, an excellent natural history display inside park building.

    August 28, 2013

    • wendy

That is a great hike - we just did that last month I think

      August 28, 2013

    • wendy

I think we did this hike last month - very nice indeed - a little longer than what I wanted to do today since we have two more hikes planned this weekend.

      August 28, 2013

  • wendy

Yes, I think I will cancel this hike - I think if we go somewhere else, we need to go North Bound - Or, I can leave it up and let those brave souls who want to try this hike to go for it - I think I will probably opt out.

    August 28, 2013

  • susan m.

I believe there is an annual arts/crafts show in Sausalito over the holiday weekend -This might be an adherence or we could decided to join the fray.

    August 28, 2013

    • wendy

Damn - I forgot about the crafts show!

      August 28, 2013

  • Debbie B.

    I agree!

    August 28, 2013

  • John

Please be aware the Bay Bridge will be closed all weekend which will make for incredibly heavy traffic to and from the GG Bridge.

    August 27, 2013

  • deb

Opting out for a longer hike. Enjoy the beach

    August 27, 2013

  • deb

School has already started down here

    August 27, 2013

  • Kendra

I tend to agree with Dianne. I was thinking of cancelling anyway. Sort of a short hike for a long drive.

    August 27, 2013

  • Dianne H.

I think any major hiking spot in Marin is going to be packed just because it's a major holiday weekend. It's everyone's last chance to get out before vacations are over. I'd be more concerned about finding parking. With 23 people signed up, even if we all carpooled, we're talking about 6 cars just with our group. The bridge closure will just make the traffic worse...just my opinion!

    August 27, 2013

  • Rose

Do you really think it will be that bad on Saturday morning? ...I think most people don't get going for events and such until later in the morning and then afternoon and evening.....Im sure there is a lot going on in the city, but no Giants game...What about moving our timing up by half an hour? - Leaving RP at 8:30 instead of 9

    August 27, 2013

  • wendy

I'm suddenly wondering if the southbound traffic to Mill Valley is going to be Stop and Go because of the Bay Bridge Closure? People coming across the Richmond Bridge to over the Golden Gate. Maybe we should re-think this hike and do it another weekend. What is everyone's thoughts about this?

    August 27, 2013

  • Barbara T.

I'll be at the RP Park and Ride and can drive a carpool as well.

    August 27, 2013

Hope to be there if I can find Tennessee Valley. Will meet u at Tennessee Valley parking lot. Do u have directions from 101 in Mill Valley .Coming from Napa.

Happy to drive and meet people at 9am in Ronhert Part but WHAT IS S/B SIDE of expressway? AND, if for any reason one were to miss the Ronhert Park connection, where are we meeting up in Mill Valley to park cars? THanks Susan

    August 26, 2013

    • wendy

Bruce wrote this about parking: I was telling Wendy that it gets very crowded with cars on the weekend, and suggested people carpool from the big parking lot behind Walgreen's at Tam Junction...which you'll see on your left as you enter Mill Valley (Stinson Beach exit off 101). But I realized that people will probably already be carpooling from Rohnert Park; so hopefully there's a minimal number of cars trying to park at the Tennessee Valley parking lot. I live in Mill Valley, so will join the group at the TV parking lot.

There are no benches in Tennesse Valley! just an amazing view and lots of different trails. And the beach!

I would like to ride with someone if possible. Should we just bring our own food/lunch?

    August 25, 2013

Rose, meet me at the park n ride - yes bring your snack or lunch.

      August 25, 2013

I would be happy to drive - have room for 4 people. Kendra thanks for the email and welcome back - very much appreciated. Wendy, than you for offering to share at Silver Lake- Also is very appreciated - Still not sure if I am going on camping trip. Look forward to seeing you next Saturday,Susan

Does anyone know how many miles it is? Thank you

    August 18, 2013

      I don't think it is 8 miles... I think it's much shorter

      August 21, 2013
