Regional Park Wildflower Walks Are Back!!

Hood Mountain Regional Park is the Regional Park's last wildflower walk in this year's series.  We will be parking at the North entrance which is on Los Alamos Road.  The theme of this walk is "Rare and Unusual Plants":

This will be a very strenuous hike with steep elevation gains up Hood Mountain and will last five or six hours

Parking is $7 or free for Regional Parks members. Heavy rain cancels. Be sure to bring a full water bottle, a snack,  and wear sturdy shoes. Meet in the parking lot at the bottom of the Los Alamos Road entrance for a prompt 8 a.m. departure.

Terrific hike, well informed leader, nice people (there were four of us) and pretty flowers and scenery. Perfect temperature for hiking. THANK YOU.

I won't be carpooling from Rohnert Park--in case you planned on it.

Wendy and I are looking for a carpool if anyone can give us a ride. Thanks.

I'm still going. There are such great flowers this year and I haven't been to Hood yet to see what's over there. I think I can handle the strenuous hike, I'm more worried about the long drive up, and then down Los Alamos Road. And I wonder how long that drive will take? I live just east of the JC.

Just a reminder that you need to be at the trail-head BEFORE 8:00 A.M.. so Phil can leave right at 8:00. I know this is very early for some SWAGGERS. This will be another "stop, listen and go-a-little ways" hike lasting from 5 to 6 hours (ending about 1:00 or 2:00) If you are not interested in learning about plants, and just want cardio, it's probably not the hike for you.
I'm not going to post carpool locations, but carpooling is always a good idea. The lot is pretty good sized and there is a porta potty in the lot. Remember your Park Pass or $7.00. Since we may not be finished until 1:00 or 2:00, I’m just going to bring snacks to eat along the way.

thanks Dianne. Since I'm dong a hike the following day think I will cancel out on this one. Maybe do it again later in the year?

    Hi Dianne,
I checked the website about this hike the other day, and he has changed it from 4 hours to 5-6 hours, for the whole hike. Lunch might be closer to 2pm. And he says "strenuous".

Thanks, Wendy. Here's what it says now: This will be a very strenuous hike with steep elevation gains up Hood Mountain and will last five or six hours. Parking is $7 or free for Regional Parks members. Heavy rain cancels. Be sure to bring a full water bottle, a snack, and wear sturdy shoes.
