Pepperwood Preserve Public Hike

Note:  Space is limited, contact Pepperwood to reserve your spot.

Pepperwood Preserve is a 3,120 acre nature preserve located in Sonoma County. It provides a sanctuary for wildlife and affords a native habitat for its flora and fauna to thrive.  The public hikes are one of the ways for the public to enjoy and learn about the preserve, free of charge.

Advanced registration required.  See Pepperwood website:  http://app.pepperwoodpreserve.org/pls/apex/f?p=514:2:0

This is a moderate 4-5 mile hike with an elevation loss and gain of about 750 feet. Participants should be in good health and able to hike over hilly terrain.

At Pepperwood, meet at the Red Barn (by the lower parking lot) by 8:45 am.  Bring a lunch and snacks, we will stop for a picnic during the hike.  Also be sure to bring plenty of drinking water and dress in layers.  Restrooms are available at the start of the hike.

No pets permitted.

Carpooling is encouraged, please indicate your interest when you RSVP:

Santa Rosa:  River Rd. Park and Ride, leaving at 8:15am.

Great time! I learned a lot from docent, Steve. Good company carpooling with Stephanie.

It was a wonderful hike and nice weather. I went with Steve and Linda and they were very knowledgeable and interesting and cute together (husband and wife team). We saw more flowers than I was expecting. There were 4 other SWAGGERS in our group. Lovely day!

It's looking like a great day for a hike at Pepperwood! Don't forget your sunscreen, and hat! And water and lunch. I'm wearing bug repellent because I get attacked so much. Small chance of ticks and poison oak out there. We will stay with the Pepperwood leaders, probably have a couple of groups but we will all meet for lunch at the top.

Looks like 8 people will meet at the RR PnR, so we should be able to make two cars and head towards Calistoga. Yahoo! Looking forward to a great day!

Everybody should be signed up with Pepperwood as well as here and should arrive at Pepperwood by 8:45 to sign waiver and check in before brief orientation and introductions. River Road park and ride, please meet at 8:15.

I just signed into Pepperwood. They said to be there 15 minutes early. You all know better than me. I will be at the park-and-ride on River Road, but do we need to meet a little earlier?

    June 13, 2014

    • Dianne H.

Thanks, Marlene. Yes, could you be at the River Rd. P&R by 8:15 (per Joya). That would get us to Pepperwood closer to 8:45. Thanks.

I'll arrive at RiverRd Park & Ride location around 8:30 and am willing to drive or hitch a ride. ( My car is a bit messy from travel... hope you don't mind too much)

By the way where is the River Road P &R ?

    June 13, 2014

    • Dianne H.

The River Road Park and Ride is just outside of the PG&E substation near Hwy. 101. Take the Mark West exit and turn left over the overpass towards River Road. You will see all of the PG&E towers on the right along with a parking lot right off River Road.

I'll be at River P&R before 8:30 to ride or drive. Early arrival may be to fill out Pepperwood's waiver form, which can also be downloaded from their website.

Yes, Barbara, I would love to meet you at the River Rd. P&R, at 8:30. Anybody else want to join us? It is about a 30 minute drive to Pepperwood from there.

    June 11, 2014

  • Joya H

    Is anybody wanting to carpool?

Also, remember to bring a lunch or snacks, we usually do a lunch stop during the hike and get back to our cars at 2pm. Lots of water and hiking poles are also good for this hike.

I just moved back to Santa rosa and I live just around the corner in a cute studio within walking distance and I have wanted to hike this preserve.

I just did a public hike on May 10, it was fabulous! Moderate pace and terrain, wonderful Pepperwood guides, ours is a reptile expert. We got to see a couple gopher snakes up close and personal!

If you would like to see photos of Pepperwood and some SWAGGERs, go to the photos that Dianne posted from April 13 at the Wildflower Festival.
