The Kortum Trail begins at the upper parking lot at Wright's Beach and continues along the bluffs just prior to Goat Rock. Wildflowers are still blooming on the coast this time of the year and the views can be stunning. Most of the walk is flat with some moderate ups and downs.
It's approximately 3.5 miles one way, so 7 miles round trip. Shell Beach has a restroom (hole in the ground) and the beach is a lovely place to walk on the sand. There's also a labyrinth nearby on the bluff.
Bring water, sunscreen and a hat. It can be cold, foggy or warm, so layered clothes are advisable. Bring a lunch and we'll eat on the bluff when we're hungry. Trekking poles can be useful for the ups and downs.
Carpooling is a great idea. If you are willing to drive and have extra room in your car, please let us know the best place to meet you. Usual spots are the Petaluma and Rohnert Park P&R off Hwy. 101 and the PG&E P&R on River Road.
