At this point it is now full unless we can get another driver to drive another rental car.

This trip will be limited to 11 people max and we will be going by a 12 person rental van.

Also since it is by rental car we will start at Baek Mu Dong and go up on one trail to Jang Teo Mok and then move to Chun Won Bong Peak and then back to Jang Teo Mok and then on to Saeseok Shelter where we will stay for the night. Then next day move down Han Shin Valley back to Baek Mu Dong.

Hello Everyone,

Weekend of 8/14 could possibly be the hottest weekend of the year based on average temps. A great way to fight off the humid summer heat is to head for very high elevation where the weather is quite cool and not hot n humid. Also it is a great way to avoid the massively crowded beaches of Korea and yet stay cool and avoid all those mosquitos that some beaches are famous for.

The highest peak in mainland Korea is Jirisan (the peak is called Chun Won Bong). The peak is 1917 meters. The view from ...up there is spectacular and by any measure Jirisan stands out as one of the best of the best hiking places in Korea.

We start the hike early when the weather is cool and nice. Once the day warms up you are high enough in elevation that we are now in the “cool~ zone”. ^^ We get to Chun-Won-Bong by taking the shortest route which is from Jung San Ri (500 meters). Its rated at a 5.5hr hike to the top. Last year it took me a lot longer because I took many rests but most got to the peak in less than 5hrs.^^ This is not a hike for first timers but if I can do it then almost anyone can.^^

After resting and taking in the fresh air and views from the top, we head west along the ridge past Jang Teo Mok shelter to Saeseok shelter which is where we will stay for the night. You can buy water and snack at either places.

In the morning we head down to Baek Mu Dong valley where you will encounter countless number of small and large waterfalls and pools of fresh water and granite boulders and just the very sounds of nature all around. You will wish you can just jump right into the fresh water pool.^^

Finish off the hiking day with bibimbob or pajeon and makgeoli. You will be able to use the outdoor shower booth free of charge. It does not have hot water but its free and you can change into fresh new clothes before heading back up to Seoul.

The plan is this:

8/13 (Fri)
11:30PM Depart Express Bus Terminal in Seoul (Exit 8-2)

8/14 (Sat)
4:30AM Arrive Joong San Ri, Start Hike
10AM Arrive Chun-won-bong peak.
12 Noon Walk along the ridge to Jang Teo Mok Shelter.
1PM Walk along the ridge to Seseok Shelter.
3PM Arrive at Seseok Shelter.

8/15 (Sun)
10AM Head down to Baek Mu Dong Valley
4PM Finish with Pa Jeon and Makgeolli
I will rent out a room there so as people arrive each can take a quick bath.

The Seseok shelter can be reserved online. However the 190 spots get taken in the first two minutes. Last year we had about 10 people try to reserve and two people succeeded. Each person can reserve 4 spots. We should all try to reserve spots.
The moment you can start reserving is at 10AM on Friday 7/30. Please let me know if you can make the attempt at this time. They also allow people in the rooms to fill no shows. It is separated by womens room and mes room.

If we don’t get enough spots in the shelter no problem. We can sleep outside looking at the stars. It just means you will need to be prepared. While the chances are good that conditions will be good, you will want to be prepared for possible cold winds blowing over the ridge. A good sleeping bag is a must. If you do not have one, you may want to buy this one. It’s a goose down sleeping bag.
If you prefer I can buy it for you. The price 37,800 and has 4 colors. The weight is 1.6kg = 3.5lbs. If you want us to get it for you please make the deposit and send us email with your request.

I have a couple of tents but tents are not allowed so I am not sure what to do with these.^^

The cost of this trip is 39,000 won which includes the chartered bus and insurance. There is a discounted price of 37,000 won if you make a deposit on or before 7/30.

And a discounted price of 38,000 won if you make a deposit on or before 8/6.

This trip will be limited to 45 people.

Sign Up Procedure:
1. EVERYONE MUST be member and must RSVP YES to be eligible to go. (CANNOT RSVP for someone else.) RSVP YES does not mean you have a spot on the bus. 2. If # of spots remaining is less than 5 (show at top of this post) then send me an email ([masked]) to check if there is room for you.

3. Deposit the amount as shown above. Only a deposit AND your name on the deposit confirmation list guarantees space!
You can deposit for someone else or someone else can deposit for you. (to confirm your deposit, check for name on the DEPOSIT CONFIORMATION LIST)
You can use ATM to make the deposit if you or your friend has an ATM card.
If you dont know how to make a deposit please ask a Korean friend to help you. Your Korean friend can make the deposit for you using their ATM. Also please do not write "trip" or something like that for the deposit. Then it comes in as "trip" and I do not know who made the deposit.

4. Send email ([masked]) saying you made HOW MUCH deposit from WHICH BANK for WHICH TRIP on WHICH DATE. And also please include your cell phone #. ONLY AFTER WE RECEIVE THIS EMAIL CAN WE PUT YOUR NAME ON THE DEPOSIT CONFIRMATION LIST.
Also please include your middle name. The deposit shows up in my account with sometimes just 4 letters. Sometimes it is the first 4 letters of your middle name. So please let me know exactly what it says on your account in full. Please indicate which is middle name and which is last name and first name because sometimes that is difficult to know.
Also please indicate if you are male or female.

Please do not combine email with other trips. PLEASE REMEMBER TO SEND ONE EMAIL FOR EACH TRIP. AND~ Please include the name of the trip in the SUBJECT line!

Once we receive the email and we can confirm the deposit we will add your name to the deposit list. Once your name shows up on the deposit list, then your spot in confirmed. If you make a deposit but do not send the email, that spot may get filled by someone else.

5. Information for Travel Insurance

what is the lowest temperature it is likely to hit at night? i'm wondering if i could get away with a warm blanket and longjohns. i'll be leaving korea really soon, so i don't want to invest in a sleeping bag.
