Habitat for Humanity KC is a non-profit Christian ministry working to fulfill the dream of home ownership for low-income families in the Kansas City metro since 1979. Habitat builds affordable, energy-efficient homes in the inner city for sale at 'no profit, no interest' to qualified families.
BUILD Volunteers — Construction skills are not needed, but FULL DAY commitment is required starting at 8:00am - 3:30pm. Volunteers need to arrive promptly to allow time for sign in, house assignment, task distribution and the morning safety meeting. We'll also be given a half hour lunch break at 11:30am.
**** STRONG COMMITMENTS ONLY! ****
Specific details on the work we'll be doing will be emailed prior to our event and may vary depending on what the volunteers ahead of us accomplished, what needs to be done and what supplies are available. The type of work volunteers help with include preparing the lots, painting, siding, framing and tiling; just to name a few.
AGE REQUIREMENTS — Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to work on the construction site. Under 18 must have a waiver and release form signed by a parent or guardian prior to volunteering.
WHAT TO BRING — Please bring a lunch and any snacks or drinks you may want. Water will be provided on site in large jugs (refillable bottles are encouraged). Check the weather report and bring things appropriate for the day - rain gear, sunscreen, insect repellent, hats, or extra layers of clothing may be useful to have with you.
DRESS — Volunteers must wear sturdy closed-toe shoes and should bring work gloves. Dress appropriately for construction and wear clothing/shoes you don't mind getting dirty, muddy or paint on. No open toed shoes, sandals, slippers or crocs. Shorts are also discourage. Be aware that if it has been raining, the construction sites will be muddy.
TOOLS — Habitat KC provides most tools, however, due to their limited supply of tools we encourage you to bring your own tools if possible. A good general tool belt to bring would include a hammer, level, tape measure, pencil, speed square, and box knife. Mark your personal tools clearly so they don’t get mistaken for others when cleaning up at the end of the day. Habitat KC will also gladly accept tool donations.

** Please be firm with your commitment when you RSVP. Habitat plans our work based upon the number of volunteers they expect. If your plans change we understand, just please change your RSVP so that someone else can go. ** Thank You!
