Hello Volunteers!

I have some exciting news to share.  Serve Kansas City has been featured on the Official Meetup HQ blog!  Check out the article here: This Meetup is serving Kansas City

This is an extreme honor for us and all of you should be very proud.  The article talks about the jcpenney Angel Giving Tree sponsorship challenge that we participated in back in December.  If you recall there were 35 Meetup groups invited to participate across the nation and we pulled in first place with 52 angels adopted (double the nearest competitor I might add)!

For winning the challenge Serve Kansas City has been awarded $1000 from JCPenney!!  Yes!!  

I am committing this money to a separate account that will be designated for special projects like the Forest Avenue soup kitchen project.  My hope is that this money will help seed more of these projects in the future.  Perhaps 2-3 a year.  So don't stop the fundraising efforts for Forest Avenue!  We still need another $675 for that project.  We'll be taking requests for the next special project once it is completed.  I think we are just getting started with what we can accomplish by Serving Kansas City.
