Rock Jam Session

Hey guys,

Grab your guitar, bass, sticks or whatever and join us for another jam session! We will be rocking out for 3 hours on Saturday, January 29th starting at 2 pm. All skill levels welcome! Suggest songs to be played on the message board and hopefully people can come somewhat prepared.

Matt, I am now the organizer for the Creative & Musicians Songwriters Group and just booked an blues jam session for July 20. Let me know what you think of the format as a starting point.

Matt, please let me know as soon as you have the new format set in place. Happy 4th and all the best.

Hey guys, we understand the problems associated after having 3 of these and we had a brief meeting on Sat to go over ways to improve these Sessions. We will have a new format set in place in the near future that will allow different days to cater towards specific situations. We understand that need for these environments to support specific artistic types in a positive and fun environment and are making the necessary steps to make this a reality for your future experiences. We're sorry for any negative experiences anyone might have had and we will rectify the situation prior to our next Session. Thanks for coming out and we especially appreciate the feedback.

Also, I think it would be a good idea that we set a rule that conversations be civil. If a participant needs to say something to improve the music or even perhaps correct an errant musician, it should be said politely and in a calm tone. Most of us who departed left because of the overwhelming negative atmosphere set. Also, there tends to be two classes of musicians. One--they try to play precisely as original, and tend to be somewhat intolerant. The other, a more creative sort. The best musicians can do both. So, the precise group needs to learn to adapt to the creative ones. And the creative ones need to learn to understand that the precise ones simply can't stand the imprecision. By doing such, we will all become better musicians.

Look forward to playing with you!

The facilities are great-- a good practice area. Lots of terrific gear, and Sessions Music even provided a staff member to help! Tremendous contributions. Thank you Sessions Music.

I agree with Manny's comments. The event is clearly posted as a jam session, not a practice songs session, and I felt there was an attempt to usurp the posted format. More seriously, some members' communications were uncivil.

But, I have faith in Sessions Music to make this work well, so see you next time!

I'm terribly sorry for not being there today, something came up. My sincerest apologies.

It was awful... the organizer needs to find out from each member separately what is going on. We all want to participate in the same level, each member should be accepted and respected equally, our jam sessions is for all members to participate... it is not a one man show. We are not children trying to play La Cucaracha or When the Saints Go Marching in. We are here to help each other, to learn from each other and to have fun. Unfortunately 3 members left before ending the jam session this afternoon, 4 cancelled the day before and 3 were No Show.
The room was small but OK and very well equipped, plenty of musical instruments and the co-organizer very friendly and helpful, enjoyed meeting him.

If you feel that I was assuming hosting duties of your event I apologize and I do promise that it won't happen again, I am very embarrassed for doing so and thanks for your message that there is a Keyboard available at the meetup so I dont have to bring mine. another thought... it would not be a case of "stepping on toes" but of having to sit on someone's lap.

    June 25, 2013

  • Ted L.

Dear Rudy, I apologize if my statement sounded like a dig at you. It was not meant to be. The attendance is simply limited by the available space at the venue, and is set by the host. Not by new members who have never attended a session, or even been to the venue, such as Manny.

The host of this event is Adam Williamson. He is the only one who can allow additional attendance. New members are always welcome, but "first-come, first-served" space is finite.

    June 25, 2013

  • Rudy R.

I don't want to step on any toes in the group. You guys let me know if your interested in having a new person partisipate in your jam sessions.
    ~Peace

Adam, have you appointed Manny to assume hosting duties of your event?

    June 24, 2013

Rudy, welcome, plenty of room for a new guy. Any question call me, hope you can make it to our next session, we have a nice group of people. Manny[masked]

  • Rudy R.

Hi all, I'm new to the meetup board and found our jam session. Let me know if you guys are willing to let a new guy in the circle. I'm looking for new people have some fun with and hopefully make a few new friends.

    June 24, 2013

  • Manny B.

Thanks Ted... the tunes posted by you are always welcome, I do appreciate your time and effort, you make it easy for everyone.

Folks, I have just posted a .PDF file of a set of tunes for the 29th. Some are of my choosing and some were your suggestions that I have on file. I have hundreds of charts on file. If you suggest a title that I have on file, I will be will be happy to share.

You will see that there are songs with charts in two different keys. One is in the original key the song was recorded in, for pianists and bass players. The other is for a guitar with a capo. The key is at the top of the page, and the original key is marked "O-Key." The links on the title pager are for the recording that I based my arrangement on.

    June 19, 2013

  • Ted L.

Post your charts so we can familiarize ourselves with our tunes.

Ill be taking care of the low end with my 5-string. I'm up for any Led Zepplin

    June 15, 2013

  • Ted L.

Hey folks, these are some great songs, but I don't see any of them posted. You can post charts on this site. At the top of this page are a row of drop-down menus. Under the MORE tab is the FILES section. Click on files and post your charts. Posting a .PDF file will preserver your formatting. I have posted a couple of songs, so you can see a workable format. If you want some help creating charts you may call or write me at,[masked], or "[masked]". Ted

How about "Learning to fly" or "I won't back down"? Easy chord progressions. "Last Dance with Maryjane" is kinda cool too. I'm willing to learn Beatles jams since I don't know any. :)

If I'm there, you can try out Heil PR35 and EV767. These are, in my opinion, the best two dynamic mics available for lower pitched singers. Recently got some congas too (but maybe too big to bring).

Anyone know how to buy accordions, cymbals, timbales, or snare drums? (I think I can figure out the last two). I'm in the market.

      June 5, 2013

    • Jacob M.

well it depends on whether you want new/used stuff and how much you want to spend.
Craigslist is an option, but it all depends...

Do you have room for one more? I can bring my Yamaha Keyboard and Tamborine.
