Life is too short & we should all enjoy the journey. But to have the journey -- you have to go make it happen! What better way to do that than to have good times with good people?
We like to go to interesting events, the vineyards, movies (mostly in the winter), dance, boating/fishing, dining, billiards, walkabouts (town/city centers or parks - then dinner), beaches, potlucks, comedy, theater on B'way and Long Island...we just did the Drag Queen Invasion on Fire Island - a blast and fishing on a party boat out of Captree!
We are into doing interesting things - nature walks, "geek" events...you name it and please do make suggestions. Anything to have some laughs, relax and have good comradery. The list is endless and includes "bucket list" items at times as well as a collection of life experiences. In the summer, we do many outdoor activities to get out and enjoy the warm weather. We try to have a good mix of "high vs. low" expense activities as well so we're not always breaking the bank. We try to avoid Nassau County events - just too much driving and running around when we have the same or better in our own backyard - we've been there, lived there or in NYC, and have done that LOL. We concentrate on western Suffolk County from primarily Sagtikos Parkway to Nicols Road - north and south...and Northfork events, some Hamptons events & some NYC events.
NOTES & RULES:We take dinner reservation event RSVPs VERY seriously and will not tolerate no-shows - you will be ejected in fact from future reservations as a result, so please be serious about the commitments you make and confirm attendance week prior and not at the last moment or same day. Three NS (no shows) or LM (last minute cancellations), you will no longer be a member of this group. Some of these - we hold tables with our OWN CREDIT CARDS and may be charged for NO SHOWS! As organizers, its embarrassing to book a table for 12, or tell a Vineyard that 15 of us are coming... and have 4 show up! We do know emergencies come up as well -- just be reasonable is what we ask. If you have health issues that make you drop out in a moment - please don't RSVP - we have quite a few events that don't require a firm RSVP as well. Next - we try to be thorough with the listings, but sometimes we just don't know either. Some places don't take reservations, so we roll with it. If this bothers you, this may not be the group for you - we roll with the punches in other words, whether that's waiting for a table, etc - its life and its stuff we don't have control over. Whatever it is, or becomes, we make the best of it - we're not professional party planners LOL, nor asking party planner fees! We're working & busy professional women who want to make the best of our precious weekend time mostly. If you have questions about specific venues - please call them directly. To settle food checks, we have each person add up their food & drink, then multiply that by 1.3 - its about 10% for tax alone, and the additional is for the tip. We will also ask for 4-8 person checks if they will do it - it makes it easier to add up the final tally.
Men are very welcome to join -- couples too! NEXT....as an active member, we expect you to be responsible for your own schedule and check your commitments weekly at least. "I forgot" is...well, its just an excuse. Please read, research & be responsible on your own so the Event Organizers, who spend considerable time on planning & organizing, are not pummeled with questions, map requests, rides, or Qs varying from driving directions, etc when most of this is at your finger tips with just a little effort. We expect our members to have a good grasp over technology - that might be a better way of phrasing this! We work and have lives to tend to -- not just tending to Meet Ups, message boards and emails. Some of these events - we haven't done them yet either, so we just don't have all the answers.
So join us if you are over 45 years of age, able to be responsible & punctual, positive and reasonable, and just want to have some fun with a great group of people! See you on the journey! Thanks, Roberta & Lynne
