Originally Shenitha Holmes started our group (Beautiful Minority Sistas Loving Life) in February of 2014. She had the idea of gathering a group of minority women together in Salt Lake City together and building a connection between us. Since her departure, I (Danielle Bohanan & Winda Jones) have taken over as the group organizers along with (Ghennipher Weeks) who is assisting us as CO-Organizer to continue with that vision.
Our current vision is one that we would like to focus on the aspects of sisterhood, long lasting friendships, and the empowerment and support of each other. Since there is such a small community of minority women in Salt Lake we would like to forge lasting bonds between us.
Our group would also like to focus on the betterment of local women in the area so that we have a place to come together and share our life experiences. We all come from different backgrounds and cultures, but we also have a commonality that we are unique in that there is only a small group of us in Salt Lake.
We would like our group to be a place where we can discuss issues and our personal experiences about situations that we may not feel comfortable discussing in other groups, also, a place where we can have fun and enjoy the local events as well as other activities that we plan.
Our group will demonstrate strength and empowerment for everyone, giving a sense of belonging.
Please feel free to offer your suggestions on how to improve the group.
We wish all of you a huge welcome and look forward to getting to know you!
