Let's watch an recently filmed version of the comedy Twelfth Night, or, What You Will. Directed by Trevor Nunn, longtime artistic director of the Royal Shakespeare Company, this colorful production features an outstanding cast, including Helena Bonham-Carter, Ben Kingsley, Nigel Hawthorne, Toby Stephens, and Richard Grant. This film reflects by turns the many levels of this rich play--the comic, the melancholy, and the lyrically romantic--and it's the rare production that does.
Our group did a reading of Twelfth Night last year, so it's not time to tackle it ourselves again. I still hope to schedule a reading of Much Ado about Nothing, but I'd like to postpone it until the fall when more people can participate.
We'll send Susan Knorr's address and directions next week to everyone who RSVPs. Please bring a snack to share; I'll provide something cold and wet to drink. If you read the play beforehand, you'll enjoy the film on a deeper level.
