Hamlet - Gangsta Style - Austin Gardens, Oak Park

Jazz, Al Capone politics and good old fashioned murder and betrayal converge in this Prohibition-era production of Shakespeare's greatest tragedy. Set in 1930s Chicago, Oak Park Festival Theatre's Hamlet is staged as the Bard's work was meant to be -- outdoors in pastoral Austin Gardens, beneath the summer evening sky, where the night air augments its poetry and imagery. Here, as Hamlet struggles to re-enter society and deal with the uncle he believes killed his father, his words have never wrung so true: "'Tis now the very witching time of night, / When churchyards yawn and hell itself breathes out."

Thanks for the feedback, Beth - well deserved. Yes, it's true that I wrote about the Meetup sign posted in the grass and a fedora among the group as identifiers, neither of which occurred. I could not attend, and did not deputize another to carry the flag. We will continue to work on making the meetup better seen when walking into unfamiliar situations alone.

Very good production. Bevause of the rain, if you have tickets you didn't use they will let you use it for any other Hamlet production.

I didn't stay. I couldn't find the group. No meetup sign, no notification at the reception table, no cell number, no idea where they were. I don't think they want newcomers. Seems like a closed group.

I left. There was no Meetup sign and no one was wearing a fedora. I looked for 20 minutes and couldn't find anyone.

I can't make tonight's performance, but gave my ticket to Ben Pardo. Sorry to miss this! Just read a good review of it in the Reader yesterday. Hope who gets there will socialize together and enjoy some good performances and discussion. If anyone enjoys decent Italian food, I recommend Cucina Paradiso on North Blvd, just west of Oak Park Ave, where I used to work. Farfalle Arrosto & the Ensulata Rustica are a great combo with a glass of med red. Enjoy!

Tickets for the world touring Hamlet just went on sale at Chicago Shakespeare. It is only there three nights, July 28-30. If you want tickets, call or maybe go online quickly.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
