TWELFTH NIGHT: Act I, II, and half of III

LIMIT is 9: (8 members + me = 9) - RSVPs will be closed then. However, a "repeat" gathering may be opened on the following Sunday - May 26th.

The format will be one of providing guided teaching/presenting of Act 1, 2, and half of 3 of "Twelfth Night" with passages and quotes chosen for their poignancy and poetic beauty. The gathering is also focused on discussions of the universal social, philosophical and psychological insights that we can dig up!

Afsaneh, I'm sorry I had to cancel at such late notice. Since I've been away from home for a while, I decided it would be better to spend the evening with my GF who who is having a difficult time with a back problem. If an opening occurs in the 2nd offering of Meetup, can I attend that? Ken

Thanks for letting me know, Ken. Do watch the space on the day or two before next week's Sunday gathering, which is when cancellations start. I hope your girlfriend feels better.

I've come down with something that has me knocked out. I'm so sorry I won't be able to attend today. I so enjoyed reading 12th Night and was looking forward to discussing it.

Thanks for letting me know, Anne. Come to the 2nd half of the Play - the 2 sessions will be posted soon. (Today and next Sunday are for the 1st half of the play.) I hope you feel better!

    Tomorrow's schedule every one:

5:30 - Meet and Eat (Panera has very nice light meals and drinks.)

    6:00 - Start 7:00 - (appx.) 10 min. break

    8:30 - Finish

I do provide handouts with lots of quotes from the first half of the play. We are a mixture of "new" and "returning" members tomorrow and I look forward to seeing everyone!

I can't come on the 19th, but I can come on the 26th (I'm leaving the country on the 28th of May). I have a fabulous film of Twelfth Night - Brian Denehey as Sir Toby Belch. I haven't seen the film yet, but it is the film of the play they did at Stratford, Ontario in 2011 -- the best Twelfth Night I've ever seen! I will be glad to contribute that to our final gathering at the end of our study of the play.

That version sounds interesting. Here's my favorite movie version. Helena Carter got top billing but the actress who plays Viola/Cesario is especially good: http://www.imdb.com/t...

Betsy: Thanks for the info. Betsy! I'll have to borrow it from you! Larry: Yes - that's the version we'll be seeing!

I am so excited to finally be able to join you! I was so sad my schedule didn't mesh for the first two plays.

TWELFTH NIGHT: Will be showing at the Folger April 30 - June 9. The DVD I've chosen for the end-of-cycle gathering is the 1996 Trevor Nunn version. Trevor Nunn - Artistic Director of the RSC (Royal Shakespeare Company) and the NT (National Theatre) is a colossal figure in the UK Theatre world, and I look forward to seeing the movie, too! Helena Bonham Carter stars, like Larry mentions below, and Trevor Nunn's wife, Imogen Stubbs, plays Viola/Cesario.
Thanks for introducing us to another version, too, Betsy!
Look forward to seeing Ken again, and welcoming Kristen and Anne.
