"Go to your bosom..." - Measure for Measure

SHAKESPEARE LOVERS - Chevy Chase, MD

The purpose of "Shakespeare Lovers"  is to  study and savor one play per season - via monthly meetings. Month 1 - 1st half of the Play; Month 2 - 2nd half; Month 3 - "DVD Party." Shakespeare's  insights into the human condition can be appreciated on many levels and the group hopes to facilitate discussions around the psychological, philosophical and sociological issues in the plays, especially in relation to our own life experiences.  Being Persian, a love for literature is part of my heritage's national character - where literature is used as a guide-to-life, and  falling for Shakespeare was an effortless experience. Our plays are chosen  based on what is being performed at either the Shakespeare Theater or the Folger during a given season. Seeing Shakespeare after even the smallest commitment to "study" the play - allows you to sit in the audience and wait for the gems you've come to savor, pop at you! I just love that!! In an age of Reality TV and a very small percentage of movies that truly inspire,  the group hopes to take us to a place where a textured narrative, depth and complexity of characters, not to mention the beauty of the literary execution itself, would come together, and nourish our souls. A wonderful artistic experience is a great way to keep our deeper essence nurtured - and I hope the group facilitates such experiences for you.  A favorite quote:
