4-5 miles approx., flat terrain. To commemorate the one year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy we will revisit the devastated neighborhood of Red Hook and to see how it has rebounded. From Borough Hall we'll take the B-61/77 bus to IKEA and begin our walk visiting Erie Basin, Fairway, Van Brunt Street, Fort Defiance, Valentino Pier, Pioneer and Coffey Street, Steve's Key Lime and The Waterfront Museum. Other points of interest will also be included. Because of the somber nature of this particular walk participants might wish to purchase items along the route or donate a small sum to any gallery or museum that may be open for business. Bring lunch or purchase for al fresco meal break on the pier weather permitting. We'll conclude our hike by walking up Columbia Street to Atlantic Avenue for transportation home via bus or subway. Rain cancels, threat of rain does not.

MEET: 10 AM at Borough Hall, Brooklyn, front steps facing the plaza. Take # 2,3,4,5 to Borough Hall, R to Court St.

Beautiful day, some shocking sights as we revisited Red Hook 1 yr after Sandy. There are still scars from that storm. There were 12 of us for this walk.

    Hi Dan,
Trying to figure out timing. Since we are just reversing the itinerary, assume the mileage is pretty close to the same and the time would be 2-3 hours?

If you hang around until the evening, you can participate in the Sandy commemoration events taking place in the neighborhood:
