World's Fair Anniversary Festival in Flushing Meadows Corona Park

We will take a 6 mile walk around Flushing Meadows Corona Park, site of the 1939 and 1964 World Fairs, have lunch while enjoying the World's Fair Anniversary Festival and then tour the renovated Queens Museum of Art and see the Panorama of New York City and the Worlds Fair exhibit.

We will have lunch in the park, where there will be plenty of food vendors, but we will not be passing any actual stores along the way. Note the availability of Belgian Waffles! About 3 hours of walking, 1 hour for lunch then 1.5 hours in the museum, so done by 4:00 p.m.

"Come join the celebration of the 50th and 75th anniversaries of The World's Fair at Flushing Meadows Corona Park.  Activities will include tours of historic World’s Fair sites, a puppet show, inflatable rides, arts and crafts, face painting and more.

Enjoy cultural music and dance performances throughout the day followed by an evening concert.  Different foods from around the world will be available including the return of the 1964 World's Fair Belgian Waffle."

Thanks Tom for leading a wonderful walk and leading us to areas of the park I never knew existed. Not that I expect to ever find these areas again, mind you, but it was nice to see them once :)

Thanks for a fun trip! Both of us hadn't been to the original fairs and it was quite the eye opener. There was also a hawk nest in the Unisphere and we saw it through a telescope!

Thanks for coming to the walk everybody, it was a lot of fun, sorry for those that got left behind, I'm thinking of a taller hat and 20lb weights in my bag. The exact mileage was 5.27 miles to the Unisphere, so the wandering around, the museum and back to the train are in addition. Next time we go to Flushing Meadows we will investigate the zoo, the aviary looks like a trip.

  • Jeffrey

Will there be an opportunity to buy food? Should we bring our own? I guess there might be long lines?

    May 14, 2014

    • JohnO

If it's anything like the Dragon Races held in the Park, the food service lines/waits will be chaotic. My guess is this event will be bigger than the Dragon Races.

      May 17, 2014

    • Tom B.

No line is ever too long when there is a Belgian Waffle at the end!

    1 · May 14, 2014

    • Deirdre

Thanks for the tips. It will be a long commute on mass transit but worth it vs driving

      May 15, 2014

    • JohnO

Deirdre, you can park near a station on the 7 line and take the subway from there. If you need help with this, send me a direct email.
