Update July 7: There is a service advisory for the 2 train on the date of this hike, July 12. Shuttle buses replace the train in the Bronx between 149th Street/Grand Concourse and East 180th Street, adding about 20 minutes to the trip. When exiting the train at 149th Street,make sure you get a transfer ticket, get on the Express Shuttle Bus, and hand your transfer ticket in at the East 180th Street station.
Also, this hike will got through some heavily wooded areas with mosquitoes and ticks and some areas with no shade from the sun. Wear long pants, long socks, preferably long sleeves, bring a hat, sunscreen and bug repellent.
About 10 miles and 5 hours, moderate pace, we will walk through Seton Falls Park and Pelham Bay Park, ending at the Pelham Bay station of the 6 train. We will see Split Rock, walk along the bridle path, see the old train station, visit Orchard Beach and City Island.
Bring water and snacks, we will stop for lunch at the Fairway Market cafe on Boston Road. We will visit City Island but not stop to eat.
MEET: 10:30 AM at the north-east corner of 233rd Street and White Plains Road outside the 233rd Street Station of the 2 train.
