Bronx River Greenway: 233rd Street to Soundview Park

Update July 24: There is a service advisory for the 2 line the day of the hike, but it only requires that you transfer from one uptown train to another at 149th Street/Grand Concourse, there are no shuttle buses involved. Here is a link to the service advisory: MTA Service Advisory

If you would like to reach the hike via Metro-North, take the 10:25 local Harlem Line train from Grand Central to Woodlawn, arriving at Woodlawn at 10:51, also stopping at Harlem/125th Street at 10:35 and Fordham at 10:43. Walk up the stairs at the south end of the Woodlawn platform to the 233rd Street bridge, go left (east) on the bridge to Bronx Boulevard and then meet the rest of the group by the stairs in front of Montefiore Hospital, which is where we will be making a rest stop. Here is a link to the train schedule: Metro-North schedule

We will walk the Bronx River Greenway starting at the 233rd Street stop of the 2 line to Soundview Park and end up at the St. Lawrence Avenue stop of the 6 train.

About 14 miles and 6 hours, moderate pace, mostly paved trails, some dirt paths, some hills. There will be mosquitoes and may be ticks or other pesky creatures, so wear pants and bring bug repellent.

The walk will take us through Shoelace Park, into the Bronx River Forest and Bronx Park, across Pelham Parkway, into a free part of the Bronx Zoo for a close look at the river, past the Cross Bronx Expressway into Starlight Park, across Westchester Avenue to the Concrete Plant Park and under the Bruckner Expressway to Soundview Park then walk to the St. Lawrence Avenue stop of the 6 train.

We will stop to eat lunch at a park just past Pelham Parkway; there are nearby delis, restaurants and fast food joints to get food or bring your own.

Meet: 10:30 a.m. outside the 233rd Street station of the #2 line at the south west corner of 233rd Street and White Plains Road.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
