Shorewalkers will hold its annual Great Saunter—a 32-mile walk around Manhattan’s rim. The pace is steady, but not fast. Most of the route is fairly flat. We keep to the waterside as much as possible.

We’ll go rain or shine and many of us will make it round, regardless of the weather. We walk through more than twenty parks and promenades and touch dozens of communities and cultures. Along the way are many points from which you can easily join the group or drop off and catch public transportation.

Don't think I was officially clocked in but loved the fourth of the walk I made. From Inwood Park to the Roosevelt tram, or about 8 miles. Fun to see the same people passing or that we passed. Beautiful.

Great walk. Sid King did a great job in putting the walk together.

    Well organized.
Well administered. It was reassuring to find guides at remote points on the route.
    Lots of fun.

Even though I did 't get to finish (my legs gave out at E. 86th St.) I had a great time and met some really nice people. I would definitely do (or at least attempt) the Great Saunter again.

I did have some issues though. The detours around Harlem were somewhat uncomfortable, with the local unsavory types ogling the walkers and whatnot. Also, many of the water fountains and public restrooms along the way were either out of order, or had no water or soap. This isn't anyone's fault, but I think people participating in this event should be aware as to better prepare for the walk.

YAY! It was a good day for a walk/urban hike the weather cooperated. There were so many people for this event it was good to see everyone was in good spirit. I like to say hi to all I pass or passed me. :) Finishing the saunter and seeing all the people hurting, which I can relate looked to me more like a zombie scene reaching the finish line missing was dragging the feet along the pavement. :) Although, no discount for the group at Heartland Brewery? That kind of suck, only beer???

I have relocated to NJ and suspect that my number may have been sent to my former NY address. Since my membership will expire soon I will complete a new membership and pay the fee on Saturday when I register. I should be jjoining at 9:30am.
