The Providence Social Anxiety Meetup is a group for people who consider themselves to be shy or feel uncomfortable or nervous interacting with other people. We offer support, understanding, and the opportunity to share stories and experiences with others who face the same challenges. Together, we will learn from each other and take small steps to overcome social anxiety.
Social Anxiety (SA) is very common, with some estimates indicating that about 13% of the US population suffers from SA at some point in their lives. Thus, a primary goal of this group is to help people learn that they are not alone! We can all learn from each other about how to live more engaged and productive lives.
SA affects people in many ways. Some people consider themselves introverted and wish they could make more friends. For other people, SA interferes with all areas of their life, making it extremely difficult to work, leave the house, or live a “normal” life. This group welcomes all people who experience SA.
The group is very informal and peer-based, not a clinical or therapy-like experience, offering opportunities for informal discussion, activities chosen by members, or other formats as the group members decide for themselves.
Here’s to supporting each other and living better lives!
