Hike/Walk through the Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens

Sun. 4/28, 10:00am, Hike/Walk through the Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens: We will meet in the Arboretum at 10:00am in the parking lot.  The Arboretum is just off Monument Rd – first turn heading east on Monument off of I-295. The address is 1445 Millcoe Rd. Jacksonville, 32225.  A brief history: The approximately 120-acres that make up the Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens are unique in that within its boundaries lay 13 distinct and different eco-systems.

In 2006, the property was leased from the City of Jacksonville and work began by community volunteers to create an arboretum for all to enjoy. I strongly recommend that you visit the website: www.jacksonvillearboretum.org  The walk through the several trails is only about 3 miles of not too strenuous exercise. We can determine a place to lunch from many in the area afterward. Leader Tim Scott, cell[masked]-3335.

Tim, we all enjoyed the hike -- perfect morning for the walk. It was good to do the new trail -- I tried it earlier in the week, but I did not know to go across the opening; so, I just turned around and went down another path. Tarah, I'm sorry you did not come to the Ale House with us as you could have brought your pets onto the terrace --we had Patti's golden.

Beautiful walk and great company! Thanks to our organizers and to all the participants. I hope the lunch parties had a great time. Dogs were not allowed on the deck at Ale House so next time I'll leave them at home.

So we can bring our dogs? I have a sweet golden retriever, Bucky, who would love to go... But I read we're supposed to eat out somewhere together later... So I guess I couldn't go with yall since I'd have my Buckster with me.

I think there are a few of us bringing our pooches, we could try to find somewhere dog friendly maybe.

Is it OK for my 16-yr-old son to join us on this hike?

    1 · April 17, 2013

    • owenrm

Hi Kathleen, This is a question we get often. While there are no official rules against bringing your kids it's not typically done. It is an adult club and adding kids into the mix can sometimes alter the atmosphere. It's up to you. :)

I don't want to be a killjoy, but Sidetrackers is a club for adult singles. The Arboretum would be a great place to take your son sometime, but our hikes are for us.
