Great place to go! Because of the rain, didn't see as many butterflies as I would have wished to see, but enjoyed the day anyway.

I love this place!!! It is on my "must do" list, every year. I am happy that everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. You are all a first class bunch of people. It was my honor to throw this party. See you August 17th for the Jullington Creek Paddle. If you need to borrow a kayak let us know on the message board and we will work on it.

I'm so glad you all had a great time. I was there last year and plan on taking my grandson later this summer - also into photography ;o) Not a wasted photographic day - flowers with raindrops on them ;o)

Too bad for all those who thought this one was going to be rained out! What an amazing place. We went back after lunch (when the sun was actually out) and saw them release new butterflies and a 6" Atlas moth! Supercool. Definitely worth the drive.

It is raining & thundering here in Alachua. If there is lightening, the butterfly exhibit shuts down until it passes. Not sure what it's like in G-Ville.

I'm at the waiting spot here in Orange Park.

Gina and everyone, I'm open to anything. I'm new to Florida and have no idea what is available in the area around the museum. Have we established a time to meet in the car park by the dog track? Don't want to miss you!

    June 27, 2013

    • Gina J.

You won't miss me. You and Tracy should both have gotten texts from me.

I drive a blue Saturn Ion.

    June 27, 2013

    • Richard D.

Well, I am still going...but having bouts of vertigo....still trying to mske it

      June 28, 2013

    • Tracey T.

I am still debating...see how radar looks in morning.

      June 28, 2013

  • Maureen

The rain doesn't usually come until the afternoon. We'll be there in the morning. So I don't think we have to worry about getting caught in a storm.

Plans have changed so I don't have to be back at any time. If anyone from the west side of the river is still looking to carpool, please let me know. Otherwise, I will see y'all down there!

Weather still calling for 80% rain...
Just called the museum = it's an outdoor exhibit (basically covered with a big net) and subject to weather conditions. No refunds are given if it rains. In doing a bit of research: Amateur and professional lepidopterists tell tales of butterflies darting into protective vegetation and scrambling beneath leaves when dark skies and the first raindrops signal an imminent storm. Because of the weight of a butterfly, they don't want to be pelted by the weight of raindrops. Ultimately, what butterflies do in the rain is avoid it. So there you have it ;o) I think I'll pass this time around. See you all at the July 4th picnic.

    June 28, 2013

  • Sandra P.

Sue, Jeff & I will be coming from Alachua & will meet you at the museum. What time do you expect to arrive in G-ville?

Bringing me.....would anyone like to carpool down to Gainesville?

    June 19, 2013

    • Tracey T.

There are two Traceys...Tracey and Tracy...I am going it on my own

      June 27, 2013

    • Gina J.

Guess it's Tracy then. According to Google Maps, it shows that it is 62 miles and about 1.5 hours from the parking lot across the dog race track. I would think that 8:15 should get it with a little room to spare.

The address of the parking lot behind Wells Fargo is 450 Park Ave, OP. It's the carpool parking lot.
