Monday, February 1, 2010 9:19 PM
The Sidetrackers will be meeting at the Jean Ribault visitors center on Ft.George Island at 9:45 AM on Saturday Feb. 6. We will take a tour of this historic building and then go on a nature walk to the Kingsley plantation and grounds. After enjoying this area we will walk back towards the Ribault center and take a "special tour" of the Admiral Blue House (Nelmar House). This is a 7,000 sq ft privately owned home built in 1877. We will then go to the nearby lake which is home to wildlife and numerous birds on the island. The nature walk and tours will end at approx. 12:45. For those interested we can take our cars to the nearby Sand Dollar Restaurant on Hecksher Blvd, one mile south of the Island where we can have lunch with a beautiful view of the St. Johns River.
If you want to car pool or caravan, we will depart at 9:15 AM from Hardees at 9111 Merrill Rd which is immediately east of 9A. Those driving directly will take 9A north over the Broward Bridge and go east at the first exit, Hecksher Blvd (A1A). You will pass the ferry terminal in 9 miles and then go one more mile and turn left at the entrance to Ft. George Island State Park. Proceed slowly on the island road and bear right at the fork in the road and meet at the Jean Ribault Visitors Center.
Entry to the island and the tours are free. Bring money for lunch if interested and bring a bottle of water, clothing suitable for the weather, and a bright smile. Please contact me so we know to expect you. Leader - (Mr.) Kim L. at[masked] or on my cell phone at[masked]-5029.
