a wonderful trip - congenial, laid-back group, quiet and peaceful campground, awesome cliff dwellings viewed after a real work-out hike, topped off by colorful, picturesque Antelope Canyon. Great memory! thanks to Pete who organized it and Bev who brought all the food!

Navajo Monument hike was very nice, campground was nicely located and relaxing, and the company was great! Side trip to Antelope Canyon was outstanding!

Sorry I can't make it - have a new mother cat...
But if you all go to Antelope Cyn, do the more expensive trip - it's when the light comes down thru the slot lighting the wonderful twisty colorful walls - like you see in pictures! The cheaper one is probably in the morning before the sun is overhead to shine thru the crack in the ceiling.

Hi, I'm new so please forgive the naive questions. Is there a trail close by that allows equestrians. In other words, I'd like to hike Antelope Canyon with you guys and then go on my own (unless there's other riders) for the other part of the adventure. If there is, I have lots of room for anyone wanting to carpool.

I would like to carpool with someone and also interested in the trip to Antelope canyon :)

How could I have not noticed that the dates for this event include my birthday? While I think it would be a great present to myself, my family does have other plans for me.

Just learned recently the costs for the Antelope Canyon tours now run from $25. - $50. depending on which tour you take and what time of day. Mid day [aprrox. 11 - 1] are the more costly.

I have never been to Navajo Nat'l Monument -is there a carpool from Phx area?

    May 6, 2013

    • Pete W.

Yes there will be car pooling available, but it depends on if people are going on the optional side trip after. I'm hoping we can get some or all of the car pooling arrangements made over the next week. I'll try to coordinate between this meetup site and the other 11 members signed up through Arizona Sierra Club website.

FYI - over the past 10 days we had 6 more people from the Arizona Sierra Club website sign up for this outing, so all 20 spots are now taken. There is a waiting list, but 20 is the maximum number for this outing. More info to follow this week.

We will be car-pooling, but that will depend on who wants to do the optional part of the trip, and who does not. This is still not fully known at this point, and I will be in touch with you as we know more accurately about this. A suggested list of camping gear will be provide soon, but the basics are sleeping bag, pad, and a tent [unless you plan to car/van camp]. We will be bringing the cooking gear. Average temperatures for the weekend of June 7 - 9 at the Monument are low to mid 80's during the day and mid 50's at night.

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in carpooling for this event? I am new to the group so I have a few questions. What kind of camping gear would be needed for this trip? Bev or Pete? I am only interested in the Navajo National Monument tour/hike, I am on a budget :) A tight one at that! Sorry I tend to over share.

So sorry, one really does have to check the calendar before sending out an RSVP. My friend and I will be out of town until June 10 - so I have to reverse my earlier positive RSVP.

What is the total cost of the trip, other than the $30?
    Thanks!

    April 9, 2013

    • Pete W.

Your gas, personal expenses that you choose to make, etc. It's a cost of $30. per person for the camping, guided tour hike and food. If you choose to go on the optional/additional guided tour to Antelope Canyon there's a charge of $20. to $30. per person for that. [depending on which guided tour we get on]. That will happen on Sunday, for those who choose to go there after leaving Navajo National Monument. If people want to camp/stay Sunday night there's the cost for that

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
