White Tank Mountains Hike and Nature Center

Saturday, Jan. 11TH “C” (6 miles RT 1,000 ' EC)
We'll hike 3 miles out and back on part of the Mesquite Canyon Trail and part of the Willow Canyon trail to a spring in the White Tanks Regional Park. This is nice trail with parts that have mostly steady, but not too steep, uphills, other parts somewhat level, and nice views of the mountains and parts of the west valley. The small nature center has live snakes, scorpions, spiders, etc. Contact Pete Weinelt at [masked] or[masked]-2209.  West of Phoenix area.

Thanks Pete. It was just the right distance and level for me. I enjoyed hiking in partial shade and cooler temperatures.

We had a very good hike with a fine leader, good trails, great scenery and nice weather. You can't ask for any more than that.

Good weather, nice trail, and great company. Thanks Ed, John, Teresa, Becky, Lorraine, Tony, Andre, Lai, Bao, and Chuck for coming on the hike. I enjoyed and appreciated all of you being on the hike.

FYI - the trailhead - it's area 7 inside the park.
Follow the main road for about a mile or so [after going through the gate], go left on waterfall canyon road, through area 6, then left on ramada way. Area 7 is at the end.

Pete, I have an annual pass for the Maricopa County Parks.
Living in Sun City West, I can meet the group at the library parking lot and give 3 to 4 other hikers a free ride into the park. See you at 9:45 AM Saturday.

Does anyone want to meet at the Fry's on Olive and 91st at 8:30?

    January 8, 2014

  • Pete W.

That location might be good also besides the Fry's lot at 91st ave and Olive ave. Depending on what works better for who.

I really like this hike but really dislike the parking situation. Every other person say's it's OK, it's not OK to park there. For anyone coming from an area west of the 101 and north of Olive, we could meet at the school parking lot on the NE corner of Peoria and Perryville road.

Whatever anyone wants to do, if anything, on car pooling/condensing into fewer cars, let me or Lorraine know, or if you want to meet at 91st ave and Olive, let others know here. Thanks.

I'll be at Peoria and Perryville at 8:30, at the library parking lot - leaving at 8:45, and the trailhead inside the park [area 7]by 9 AM.

Unfortunately you cannot leave your car in the library parking lot to enter the park and avoid the fee. We should find a meeting place- perhaps the parking lot at the Wildlife World Zoo.

For those interested in car-pooling and/or condensing into fewer cars, please use this as the forum to do so. Thanks.
I'll meet at the Library/nature center parking lot with anyone who wants to, leaving there at 8:45 AM.

It sounds awesome. Are dogs allowed?

Dogs are allowed, but must be on a leash.

Does this hike start at the Nature Center or the Trailhead staging area?

    January 5, 2014

    • Pete W.

The trailhead is in the park at area 7. The hike start's there.
