Please Join Clean Air Advocates To Urge Support For New Carbon Protections

Tuesday Press Conference Ahead of Arizona House Hearing On New Safeguards - Please come for both, if you can.

Ahead of a hearing by the Arizona House Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee, clean air and clean energy advocates will gather at the Arizona Statehouse on Tuesday to urge support for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s new carbon protections on power plants. Announced last week, the new safeguards represent first-ever national protections from carbon pollution from existing power plants. These new standards, which are part of the President’s Climate Action Plan, will clean up the industries that create nearly 40 percent of the carbon pollution in our country. Power plants and transportation are the top two emitters of carbon pollution in Arizona. Arizonans also suffer from poor air quality and the harmful health impacts from high pollution levels. The new protections will also help reduce other life-threatening air pollution including mercury, soot, and smog. The House Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee, chaired by Rep. Frank Pratt, R-Casa Grande, will meet Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. to discuss the new carbon protections.
