Explore Schultz Preserve on Tampa Bay

Explore the Schultz Preserve on Tampa Bay with Tampa Sierra 9AM
Meeting place: 12781 US 41 Gibsonton, FL

Brandt Henningsen, Chief Senior Scientist with Southwest Florida Water Management District  and Sierra Club Black Bear Award recipient for 20 years of habitat restoration work around Tampa Bay, will lead our group on a private tour of the Schultz Preserve.

Shultz Preserve is owned by Southwest Florida Water Management District and managed by the Hillsborough County ELAPP program.  This restored ELAPP property has been proposed to be used for a ferry terminal. Come out and see for yourself firsthand what is being proposed on this public land that has seen its wetlands restored under the SWIM program. Agreed. It would be wet, miserable and people would be distracted by their personal discomfort and the presentations obviously would be diluted.

Just talked to Brandt and he has been on the site for the last 2 days and tells me that the ground will be to wet to drive on tomorrow based on rain that has already fallen, not considering the projected rain through tonight. So even if it isn't raining in the morning conditions are not right for this tour.

We both agreed to try again in June.

    Stay tuned.

Gail, I think you should cancel this today and reschedule. The weather is bleak. Everyone will understand.

I'll attend if the weather looks promising - which, right now, it doesn't : (

Not sure if this is still taking place as the weather forecast sayings thunderstorms. I'm taking myself off in case someone else doesn't mind getting wet.

Gail, is this happening rain or shine? The weather forecast doesn't look too good for the next few days.
