This hike replaces the Four Preserves hike that was originally scheduled for the same date and time. Due to a trail closure, we'll spend more time enjoying Montebello
and Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserves, and skip Coal Creek and Russian Ridge. It is still a beautiful hike, with excellent
views of oak groves, the ocean and Butano
ridge. We'll hike at a moderate (rather than fast) pace but this is not a beginner hike.
Bring sturdy footwear, layered clothing, sunscreen, lunch and at least 2 quarts of water. The trail will be partly in the sun and partly in the shade, and we never know what the weather will have in store for us this time of the year. Please also bring a change of shoes and a plastic bag to place (potentially) muddy boots in on the return carpool.
Rain cancels. Event covers 9 miles, with 2000 feet of elevation gain (this elevation gain is greater than in the original write-up, so be prepared!)
Meeting location: 10:40 am Carpool #6 -- Page Mill Park 'N Ride; 11:00 am -- Montebello OSP
parking lot. To get there from 280, go west (uphill) on Page Mill Rd. for about 7 miles. Montebello OSP
will be on the left. Leaders: Ney Bretas, 831/[masked]
; Marilyn Stockdale
