Start-the-New-Year-Right Hike @ Russian Ridge Open Space

Take your first hike of 2014 with Loma Prieta Sierra Singles at Russian Ridge where we"ll have the opportunity for some great exercise and spectacular views from the ridge line. When the weather is clear you can see all the way to the ocean to the west, all of the East Bay hills and Mount Diablo to the east, and south to Mount Umunhum. Bring water, layers, sunscreen and maybe even a hot beverage because it can be windy and chilly.    We will hike approximately 6 miles with 600 feet of elevation gain.

HOW TO GET THERE: The Russian Ridge parking area is located on the northwest corner of the Skyline Boulevard (Highway 35) and Page Mill / Alpine Road intersection (across Skyline Boulevard on the right).

There are two self-carpool (no leader there) locations:

8:30 am, Page Mill Park 'N Ride Lot

Intersection of Page Mill and Arastradero in Palo Alto. From 280 traveling north exit onto Page Mill Road west (Los Altos Hills) in Palo Alto.Get in left lane of exit ramp, make a left on Page Mill, go under freeway and turn left at stop sign (Arastradero). From 280 traveling South, go straight at stop sign at the end of the exit ramp. The lot is next to the freeway at the corner of Page Mill and Arastradero Note: no parking is allowed anywhere on Arastradero Rd.

8:15 am, U.S. Bank parking lot, 14411 Big Basin Way, Saratoga

From 280, take Saratoga-Sunnyvale Rd. toward Saratoga, then right on Hwy. 9 (Big Basin Way), then a quick right into the parking lot behind the bank.

Debra, Yes, please remove your name. Being able to attend these hikes without having to sign up through Meetup is one of the many benefits of being a Sierra Club member. Thanks and I look forward to seeing you again tomorrow. (I remember you from one of my summer hikes.)

Marilyn, I am already a member but attending the hike. Should I remove my name so a non-member can join?

    P.S. to previous post:
You may also avoid all this Meetup sign up/waiting list hassle in the future by joining the Sierra Club (at a discounted rate of $15 for the first year). I will have membership forms available at the trailhead tomorrow.

Thanks so much for your interest in starting the new year right with a hike at Russian Ridge with us tomorrow.

As you can see from looking at the Meetup page, we have a hefty waiting list for this hike (which is also listed with Loma Prieta Sierra Singles) so if you are confirmed to attend and have changed your mind, please change your RSVP to "no" as soon as possible so those on the waiting list will have time to plan to attend. And if you are on the waiting list and have made other plans, please also change your RSVP to "no" to open up your spot to someone else.

Please do NOT wait to change your status until tomorrow morning because that will be too late for a waiting list person to plan to attend. Whatever you decide to do, please don't be a "no show." That would be hugely unfair to others who want to attend.

Happy Trails and Happy New Year!!!
