Alum Rock County Park Hike

Date: Saturday, Dec. 15th, 2012 at 9:00 a.m.

Hike length: 10 miles with approximately 2,000 ft cumulative elevation gain

Hike description: We will meet at 9:00 a.m. at the old entrance off Alum Rock
Ave. for this fast paced, conditioning hike.  From the park entrance, we will
drop down to the canyon, climb to Eagle Rock and from there we will race to the
top of Boccardo.  We will then head towards the park headquarters and the South
Rim Trail.  There will be no lunch break, just a couple of short snack breaks
while enjoying the magnificent views from a couple of vista points as I intend
to be done with the hike before 1:00 p.m. because "'tis the season!"  So many
parties, so little time, and the purpose of this is to get a nice aerobic
workout before heading to the cookie trays.

Expected duration of hike: 3.5 hours

Directions to the trailhead: Take Hwy 101 or Hwy 680  to Alum Rock Avenue
eastbound in San Jose.  Alum Rock dead ends at the park.  Find street parking.

What to bring:  Water, sun protection, snacks, layered clothing,
sturdy boots and hiking poles.

Heavy rain cancels this hike.

This was my first hike with this group and it was a great experience. The pace was fast enough to get a good workout, yet still take in all the sights and sounds without being rushed. I enjoyed meeting and chatting with all of you.

Nice hike with great views and challenging, but fun pace.

I am not sure what the cross street is, but Alum Rock dead ends. There is a gate. We will meet at the gate. Pedestrians and bicycles can use this point of entry, but the road is closed to cars.

Despina, is the trail head at intersection of Alum Rock Ave and Canon Vista Ave?

I'm near downtown San Jose. Would anyone like to carpool together to the park? Thanks!
