Babbitt Peak day hike

This trip is for conditioned hikers only.  We will hike from the Stampede Reservoir area to 8760' Babbitt Peak and view the fall colors, forests, mountains, and meadows along the way.  Babbitt Peak is the site of a classic fire lookout tower.  The distance is roughly 13 miles RT with a gradual 3000' elevation gain.  We will hike on good trails and roads.

Perfect weather. Awesome destination to the fire tower. Distance long but gradual elevation and very doable. Fun hiking group.

I'll give this hike a boost/plug to the top of the list.

This hike should be a dandy and if it has less than 10 participants, gosh.. what are waiting for..someone to give you a cookie?

If you miss this.. you are missing a lot. At this time of the year, the Sardine Valley and the whole Henness Pass route should be breath taking beautiful -- similar to Sorensen's on HWY 88? (Carson Pass) near Luther Pass but much shorter drive.

When my friends and I biked up there many years ago.. we were surprised that Babbit Peak was higher than Peavine and is the tallest peak in this mountain range outside of the Sierras.

I am still hunting for pictures from roughly 10 years ago when the fire house was very weather beaten then - but still much better shape than the fire look out house at Sardine Peak. I am curious what the fire house might be like now. Only way to find out is.. sign up for Dave's hike and have at it.

I fully endorse Dave as a hiking organizer -- even going back 10+years

We have company coming for the weekend. Have Fun. You will be able to see our house on the west edge of Sierra Valley from the top of Babbitt. Wonderful views.

David.. I'm in if I can get lift from your meeting place.. that is if I am not banned from "ALL" Sierra Club Hikes since organization leaders seem to stick together.
