Prepare to Hike Mt. Rose: Easy

Meeting at 8:15 am and leaving at 8:30 am from the Galena Creek Visitor's Center. Hiking time around 2 1/2 hours.

Would you like to prepare to hike Mt. Rose?  If you are like me, you are out of shape from a fairly lazy winter.  This will be a weekly hike that will eventually prepare you to do Mt. Rose with ease and enjoyment in July.

For our first hike, we will start at the Galena Creek Visitor's center and hike up to the first switchback, heading up to Church's Pond.  It is around 2 - 3 miles roundtrip and around 1,000 foot elevation gain.

Dress warmly as we start at 6,000 feet and will be going to around 7,000. Bring jacket, hat, gloves, and plenty of water.  Dogs love this hike.  If you have a health condition that will prevent you from hiking at high altitudes--skip this one.

If you wish to donate a buck toward offsetting the expenses of First Aid/CPR training of Sierra Club hike leaders, it will be appreciated. All participants are required to sign a waiver at the start of the hike.

Hope to see you there!

Thanks all for coming. Thanks Ridge for sweeping and your great knowledge of trees. See you all next week.

    Beautiful scenery, and great company!
Thanks to Stephanie and Ridge for keeping us going. Ridge, thanks for teaching me about different flora and fauna. Lots of fun!

It was a good hike. I will try to make it next week as well. It played havoc with my lungs, but that is just me, my asthma, and being out of shape. I enjoyed it.

Have fun. We just returned from a week of trail crew on the PCT. Bushing and removing trees. Burney Falls SP was 20 degrees with cold or luke warm showers. It's good to be home.

Dress warmly. It will be cold as it is early. But the good part is that it will be over in time to do other things for the day. See you then!

I really wanted to go too! I strained my hamstring on Thursday at Pilates. :-(

I've never hiked before. Will this be good for a first timer?

Crap! Didn't think of this when I RSVP'd. All of my shoes are on their way here from MN in a moving truck. I only have a pair with no traction left, as far as tennis shoes go, with me. Perhaps I'll need to skip this one until I get some better shoes in my possession.
