Prepare to Hike Mt. Rose: Moderate

Meeting at 8:15 am at the Galena Creek Visitor's Center. Hiking time 2 1/2 hours max.  It is around 4 1/2 miles roundtrip and around 1,300 foot elevation gain.

Third session in the series to prepare to hike Mt. Rose.  Last week ago we went to the first switchback in the way to Church's Pond.  This week we will go to the third which is only around 3/4 mile longer but around 300  feet of more gain in altitude. We will go at a moderate pace.  If you want to go farther/faster or turn back, just sign out on our sign-in sheet.  It is optional if you want to bring a compass.  Maps will be provided. This will be a weekly hike that will eventually prepare you to do Mt. Rose with ease and enjoyment in July.

Dress warmly as we start at 6,000 feet and will be going to around 7,300. Bring jacket, hat, gloves, and you "must" bring water. High temp for this day is 71 and sunny but it is around 10 degrees cooler in the mountains and we start pretty early.

Dogs love this hike.  If you have a health condition that will prevent you from hiking at high altitudes--skip this one please.

If you wish to donate a buck toward offsetting the expenses of First Aid/CPR training for the Sierra Club hike leaders, it will be appreciated. All participants are required to sign a waiver at the start of the hike.

Hope to see you there!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
