Oregon’s spectacular designated wildernesses, showcased by George Wuerthner and his photography of wilderness landscapes and wildlife.
Mr. Wuerthner will also briefly describe the early wilderness movement and cap the presentation by touching on proposals for future wilderness conservation in Oregon. The Wilderness Act was signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson on September 3, 1964.
A prolific author, Mr. Wuerthner has published 37 books, including his latest Keeping the Wild which was published by Island Press this spring. Protecting the Wild, a follow-up title, will be published in the spring of 2015. Among other books he's published germane to Oregon are Oregon Mountain Ranges, Oregon Wilderness Areas, Oregon Wildflower Hikes.
He has also written Montana's Magnificent Wilderness, Alaska Mountain Ranges, Nevada Mountain Ranges, Idaho Mountain Ranges, Southern Appalachian Country, California's Sierra Nevada, New York's Adirondacks, the Maine Coast, and quite a number of titles on the natural history of various national parks including Olympic, Mount Rainier, Yosemite, Big Bend, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Rocky Mountain, and Great Smoky Mountains.
