Tour Little St. Simons Island, Georgia

Arrive Hampton River Marina for Tour of Little St. Simons Island, Georgia by 9:15 a.m. Cost: $79.50 per person. Maximum: 18.

Note: This trip is open to Sierra Club members only until Saturday, March 9. Then, the trip and wait list will also open to non-members.

Little St. Simons is a private island resort that has won national recognition. Plan to arrive by 9:15 a.m. at the Hampton River Marina on St Simons Island for the 9:30 a.m. ferry to the island. We start with a naturalist-led tour of the island, sitting on bench seats in the back of an open truck. Afterward, we'll enjoy a lunch prepared by the island's chef. After lunch, our naturalist will take us to explore miles of pristine beach.

The ferry departs the island at 3 p.m. The resort has noted that the boat ramp is very steep at low tide, and the truck tour is “bouncy” and may not be advisable for those with back or hip problems. A loose fitting, long-sleeved shirt and long pants are suggested in case of bugs.

Reserve on Meetup.com or to June at [masked]. Please advise June of any food allergies or dietary restrictions when you reserve your spots. Reservations close Saturday, March 16. Your reservation is a commitment to pay for the trip at the resort.

Arrange carpools on Meetup. We will carpool/caravan from Publix on Town Center Parkway (St. Johns Town Center) off 9A, north of JTB. We will depart promptly at 7:30 a.m. Estimated driving time from Jacksonville airport is 1 hour 30 minutes.

What a wonderful tour with such great and interesting fellow Sierra club members! I enjoyed everything from the high speed boat ride, the "open tour" truck, seeing a bald eagle nest, the baby gators, the rookery and the delicious lunch. Thanks so much, June, for organizing this very special tour. I look forward to more activities coming up this spring.

Very enjoyable tour, excellent guide and great company. Food was delicious weather was dry and the Egret rookery was busy. Would like to spend a longer time with my family in these surroundings.

Thanks so much Christine. Just talked to June. I will ride with her cause I live over near Mandarin. We will stop at the Publix at the Town Center to join those wishing to combine car pool. Looking forward to the trip. Pam

Sorry, had a new conflict for that date, so had to change RSVP to "no.' But kudos to June for planning this amazing-sounding trip! Eager to hear about it afterward!
