Kayak Haw Creek CHANGED TO DEEP CREEK

4/25: Kayak location has been changed to Deep Creek. Haw Creek is choked with duck weed. Please note the following:

We'll kayak on beautiful, isolated Deep Creek for about 6 miles. Bring PFD, whistle, snack, water, bug spray, sunscreen, hat. You must wear your PFD.

We'll meet at the Deep Creek Boat Launch located at 7975 SR-207, Hastings, FL. Take I-95 south to the SR-207 exit. Go west toward Hastings for about 12 miles. Right after the intersection with SR-206, you will come to the bridge over Deep Creek. Drive over the bridge, then U-turn and cross back over. The road to the launch site is on the right (south) just over the east side of the bridge.

There are no restrooms at the put-in location. Be there early to unload and get ready. Please do not launch until after I do a short briefing at 10:00 am.

====================================================

We'll paddle on one of the most beautiful kayak trips in Florida. Haw Creek winds through a cypress wilderness. We'll put in at Russell's Landing in the Haw Creek Preserve and paddle east for 3-4 miles and return.

Bring a picnic lunch. We'll lunch in the covered picnic area after the paddle, then maybe stroll down the one-mile boardwalk through the preserve.

Russell's Landing is located at the end of County Road 207 in Flagler County. Take I-95 south. Take exit #298/US-1/Bunnell onto US-1 S (US-1 S) toward Bunnell. Turn left onto SR-100. Turn left onto CR-302. Turn left onto CR-305. Turn right onto CR-110. Turn left onto CR-2007 and go to end of road.

Bring your own kayak or canoe. PFD and whistle are required. Bring bug repellent and water. Restrooms at the put-in.

    Going to pass on Deep Creek as I'm concerned about stumps/roots/punctures on our inflatables. Will hope for another opportunity before we head north. Thx!

    I put a post about wanting to ride with another kayaker since I don't have my own. Can't tell by the various responses if I have a seat or not. Can someone please clarify for me so I know whether to show up or not. Thanks

    Thanks Peter. May I pick up the carrier? I won't be there tomorrow night.

    Patrick, thanks to you too, but you would have to pick upy kayak and that's too much to ask of you.

      Hi, I just saw your post... If you need to go into the 2 seater, let me know, I don't mind switching..

      I also know of someone coming who has a two-seater inflatable and can take an extra paddler. Let me know if you want to join her and I'll give you the contact info.

      Hi, that would be great!!! That way I wouldn't inconvenience Patrick @ Pat, much appreciated :)

      April 18, 2013

  • lctwelch

    I'll take that inflatable backseat if it's still open! My left hand suffered a freak accident yesterday so if I go alone I'd just paddle in circles!
