Walter Jones Historical Park (map)
Walk for about two miles beneath the great live oaks along Mandarin Road. Meet at the Walter Jones Historical Park for a tour of the museum and 1875 homestead and farmhouse on the St. Johns River led by Andy Morrow, executive director of the Mandarin Museum & Historical Society.
Then we walk to the Mandarin Cemetery and the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, a congregation that started as a Bible study group with Professor Calvin E. Stowe and his wife, Harriet Beecher Stowe.
We will then proceed to the 1872 Mandarin Community Club, also founded by the famous author, and meet Andy for a tour of the 1911 Mandarin Store and Post Office.
We will return to the park for an optional picnic.
Bring water, snacks and lunch. Cost for the tour: $7 each, payable that day. Estimated time: 2.5-3 hours. The park and post office are handicapped accessible. However, we will be walking along the shoulder of Mandarin Road. The road in the cemetery is sandy.
