Raise a Ruckus for the River

Not a Sierra Club event, but this will be fun and benefit our St. Johns River!!

============================================

On July 6th, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., St. Johns Riverkeeper and the Riverside Arts Market are partnering to host “River Ruckus”, to raise a ruckus for the river. River Ruckus is an event aimed at showing Jacksonville that the St. Johns River is more than a scenic view. It is a recreational asset to this city that should be respected, protected, and enjoyed.

The day’s events include a flotilla, celebrity jump, live music, SweetWater Brewing Co. beer tastings, kids river crafts, plus all the great art, crafts, and produce that the Riverside Arts Market offers each Saturday under the Fuller Warren bridge.

First Coast Outfitters Flotilla: At 10am, flotilla patrons will meet at the St. Johns River marina to board their watercrafts and enter the St. Johns River, located directly next to River City Brewing. Slack tide assures a safe and easy travel for anyone on the water this time of day. Bring your kayak, SUP board, jetski, or float! As long as you can row it across the river, we want you out with bells and whistles!

See the Event Website for more info.

    CORRECTED:
    Here are details on the flotilla from the Riverkeeper and Joe Crespi of First Coast Outfitters:

    We are meeting at St. Johns Marina, adjacent to River City Brewing at 10:00 am to unload, get a briefing, and get in the water. We will paddle from RCB to the Riverside Arts Market, led by Justin Riney of Expedition Florida 500. Once at RAM, you can leave your kayaks on land or in the water, and a pontoon boat will be available to take people back to RCB for car retrieval until 4pm. After 4pm, you can walk back to RCB via the Main Street Bridge ~30 min. Any yaks and SUPs not taken out of the water upon arrival at RAM will need to be tied up on the back side of the dock between the dock and the shore. This will leave the water side open for the Riverkeeper boat and the pontoon boat to tie up to take on passengers. If any paddlers plan to pull their yaks/SUPs out of the water for land storage, they can pull up to the water side and we will have volunteers on hand to assist.

    OK, the Riverkeeper and First Coast Outfitters have now changed the time to 10:00 am. Be there at 10, not 9.

    Hi folks, I'd like to join in but since this will be my first time meeting you all, please let me know where can I find you at the Riverside Arts Market. Thanks

      I don't think we'll have a table, but you can join the Sierra Club at http://www.sierraclub.... You will automatically be added to our NE Group.

      Thank you for the link. I renewed! They made it very easy. They even let me call it "renew" even though I let my membership expire over 5 years ago. Nice to be a member again. THANKS!

    Does anyone have any additional information about the paddle that starts at 10 am? Are we paddling across from River City Brewing to Riverside Art Market? Are we paddling back? Will there be a shuttle? Do we need to arrange our own shuttle? Should we arrive at 10 am? Or is it in the water at 10 am so we should arrive earlier?

      Good questions - I'll try to get answers from the Riverkeeper.

    Can we have a large banner or something that says, "Protect Our River"? I want to make sure that the message behind this gathering is communicated. Bill, any thoughts?
