The NE Florida Sierra Club will be hosting a presentation by Mark Middlebrook, the Executive Director of the St. Johns River Alliance. It was organized in 2003 as a direct result of the St. Johns River being named by President Clinton as one of 14 American Heritage Rivers. Mark has worked as an environmental policy consultant and is the former chairman of the St. Johns County Land Acquisition and Management Program board.
The presentation will take a future look at environmental issues that will make headlines in the next 12 to 24 months. Those issues include:
• The state of Florida's springs;
• Water withdrawals from the St. Johns River;
• The proposed dredging of the river for Jacksonville port expansion;
• The condition of the Indian River Lagoon and St. Lucie River;
• The Rodman reservoir.
Everyone is welcome (including children)! Snacks will be provided, but bring your own drink. For further information, contact Larry Lickenbrock at (904) 537-6047.
