Let’s hike the Stokes Landing Conservation Area. This three-mile hike features beautiful old oaks, a variety of wildlife and several opportunities to view the Tolomato River.
Stokes Landing has a picnic area and an observation tower, and is located just north of the St Augustine airport making it an easy drive from Jacksonville and St. Augustine.
This is an entry-level hike open to hikers with little to no hiking experience and in good physical condition. Hikers should bring water, snacks, and bug-spray. Wear shoes comfortable for walking long distances (tennis shoes are usually OK). Dress appropriately for the weather. Please be prompt so we can get started on time.
To ensure a quality hiking experience please note there are no restrooms, so unless you are comfortable using the woods, you should hit the restroom on the way over. Children are welcome, but please no pets.
GETTING THERE: Please use this link to note the hike location or click on "map" above. Basically, you take U.S. 1 south from Jacksonville or north from St Augustine. At Kings Head British Pub (6460 US 1, St Augustine) turn onto Venetian Blvd, which is where the red double-decker bus is located. Follow Venetian as it curves slightly to the left and make a right on Old Dixie Dr. Go a short distance and make a left on Lakeshore Dr. Finally, drive almost to the end of Lakeshore and the parking area for Stokes Landing will be on the right. There is a large sign indicating "Stokes Landing Conservation Area" and you‘re there! If you’re not familiar with this location, I recommend aiming to get there about 20 minutes early.
