Hike Cedar Point Preserve

Enjoy a 5 - 6 mile hike through live oaks and pines with some great views of the beautiful Timucuan Preserve salt marsh.

Bring bug spray, sun block, water, and, if you want, a snack. No pets, please. Older children capable of long hikes welcome.

We'll meet in the parking lot of the preserve, located at 9023 Cedar Point Road,  Jacksonville, FL 32218. Exit on to Heckscher Drive north from I-295 (9A/East Beltway), turn left (north) on New Berlin Road. Turn right (east) on Cedar Point Drive. It is on the right (south) before you reach Pumpkin Hill Rd. If you go to the end of Cedar Point Rd, you've gone too far.

With our hike at Cedar Point Preserve, I have obtained a volunteer opportunity in that area. President Obama has asked for a Day of Service on Jan 19 in conjunction with his Inauguration. The City of Jacksonville Parks Dept has a project for some trail cleanup at nearby Tiger-Betz Preserve. I'm proposing that, after our hike, we go up to Tiger-Betz (5 minutes from Cedar Point) and put in a few hours clearing brush and overgrowth on a trail in that area. Work would consist of using loppers and trimmers to clear the trail.
Interested in helping? If so, please RSVP to the "Betz-Tiger Point Trail Work" Meetup I'm adding. Since you are up there anyway, why not stick around and put in some volunteer time for our city parks!

The group is getting big, so I've imposed a limit of 26 and added a waiting list. If you change your mind and won't be going, please change your RSVP to "NOT GOING" so someone else can go. Don't forget to arrange your own car pools. See ya' on the 19th!

I am hoping this meet up will be one I am able to actively participate in. I need some regular outdoor activity. See you all soon!

Hey, this is a bit of a drive up to the northside, so I encourage everybody to use this forum to form some car pools and save gas!
