IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER ABOUT THE SIERRA MOUNTAINEERING GROUP
The Sierra Mountaineering Group is a network of enthusiasts who enjoy mountaineering, but it is not a licensed guide service. Events are posted on Meetup.com to connect with others interested in mountaineering, and to allow for pooling of resources to the advantage of SMG members. SMG cannot and does not endorse or insure mountaineering or any other related activities we undertake, since it cannot be guaranteed as safe and may result in injury, disability, and death at any time. Mountaineering alone or in a group is inherently risky every time, all the time. But then, so is driving on the freeway. Life is full of risks, so we don't pretend otherwise.
Your safety is your responsibility. It is up you to decide if an event is within your skill level. If you decide to attend, you do so at your own risk. There is no insurance offered or implied through this group. Each participant is solely responsible for their own personal safety during the entire trip, regardless of the expertise / decisions of the organizer, including the transportation from and back to the meetup location .
Each participant must be adequately experienced and self-sufficient in order to match the rigors present at the event. Physical and mental effort to some level of challenge is always present at all events. Many events require specialized skills such as fall protection, self rescue, survival and crevasse rescue. Events always involve some level of technical mountaineering, and will include some or all of the following: snow and ice climbing, rock climbing, glacier climbing, steep terrain, harsh conditions, off trail navigation, altitude, hunger, thirst, fatigue and general deprivation. :-)
