Hike Patterson Mountain

Description: On this gentle forest walk, the trail passes huge Douglas firs, carpets of sorrel, and an assortment of early wildflowers on the way to a clifftop overlook with views of Hardesty Mountain and Lookout Point reservoir, and a glimpse of the Three Sisters.

And some photos from last year's Patterson hike: http://www.meetup.com/SierraClub-ManyRivers/photos/10232612/

Difficulty: Easy
Distance: 4.6 miles round-trip
Elevation Gain: 400 ft. (there is also some up-and-down)

More Information: This is a really pleasant hike on a solid trail.  I checked the trail on Saturday, May 25, and the valley rain last week amounted to a foot of new snow on parts of the trail. It was melting fast, and should be gone before this outing.  The flowers currently in bloom are the "snow-chaser" (i.e. early) types.  Although the trail seems to drain pretty well, there will likely be several wet patches, so I strongly suggest ankle-high, waterproof footwear.

If you were signed-up for the (postponed) Mt. June hike on May 27 and would like to join this hike you'll have priority, so let me know and I'll make sure you're on the list.

Preparation: Bring plenty of water, lunch, rain jacket, an extra layer of clothing, sun hat, sunscreen, and water-resistant hiking boots.

Dogs: This is a designated dog outing.  Dogs must remain on-leash or under close voice control at all times. Please read the important notes below.

  • Most of the trail seems very dog-safe, but the overlook is nearly a cliff-edge.  I strongly advise keeping dogs on leash when we stop there for lunch.
  • I didn't see any streams or other local sources of water for dogs, so please carry plenty of water for your dog.

Is there any way I could be picked up at Ray's Food Place in Pleasant Hill out on Hwy 58?

I was originally on the list for Mount June and told about this "consolation prize". I sent an email to Cathy Corlett telling her the 'not attending' was in error and I did want to be on the list. If you could let me know if I'm on the list or not, I'd appreciate it.
