French Park is the site of Miami Group's Memorial Tree Grove which sits along the banks of a wonderful creek called Amberly Creek. It is the location for many walks by folks from the neighborhood and the Miami Group, especially in the Spring when the wildflowers are abundant.
For this walk, we will not only check on the six Memorial trees that were planted last year but will explore the surrounding area and walk the creek trail with an eye for doing some Service work in the upcoming months. One focus of the work at this Park will be "water testing" of the Creek and the "survey" of the environs will be with the plan to ensure that the ecology of the creek and the forest that the Memorial Grove is a part of is as native and healthy as possible.
Matt Trokan, Sierra Club staff for Water Quality, will coordinate the water testing and is looking for folks interested in learning to do this important task and who might be committed to continue the water testing on a regular basis. Leaders are Elizabeth Durrell and Matt Trokan.
